Integrity is the most powerful productivity tool I've discovered in a long time. But the first time someone described it to me, I was uninterested. Let me be clear. I am not talking about integrity motivated by moral or ethical reasons. I am also not talking about integrity that is motivated by the human desire to look good / avoid looking bad.

Check out these papers:
http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?a...id=1542759
http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?a...id=1511274

Integrity is doing what you say. It's this simple: the world doesn't care about bullshit. So to operate in the world successfully, all that matters is that you do what you say you will do. The rest is meaningless. Integrity causes your life to work. Without integrity, your life starts breaking down.

So here is what it looks like in practice for me. I'll say to myself or to a friend, "Tomorrow at 9am I am going to work on my websites." Then I do it. Knowing there's a certain time to start working gives me peace about my productivity, and I feel great afterwards. If I don't do it, I simply make a new commitment (remember, integrity is free of moral and ethical judgments). Now, I'm having growing integrity with myself.

Of course, now I am even better at keeping my word to other people. Because it's rational and in my best interest to do so. And if I become aware that I am unwilling or unable to keep my word, I let them know as soon as I can. I also clean up any mess I might have caused.

I am growing my integrity... doesn't mean I'm perfect at it (in fact, we're always out of integrity in some area of our lives)... but it works!

This is an updated version of my original SEO Blueprint from BHW. I'll post it over the course of few days because I want to make it as easy as possible to follow and implement. I am also including an information on how to complete the blueprint without using any SEO tools (manually or by outsourcing to Fiverr). Let's have a look at big picture first.

Link Pyramid

The whole method is based on building links structured as a link pyramid. To better understand the idea of the link pyramid have a look at the following picture.

First tier consists of small number of high quality links from trusted and high PR domains (or both) created using high quality unique (or extremely well spun) content. Example of this links are Web 2.0 posts, video sharing, document sharing, private blog networks (your own), high PR profile links (Angela, Paul), guest blog posts, PAD and software links.

These links point directly to your money site (the web site you are going to rank).

Second tier consists of larger number or lower quality links. Article directories, mass Pligg submissions, other automated links. Spun content is perfectly OK for this tier. This tier links go both to the money site and to the sites in tier one.

Third tier consists of even larger number of low quality links. Alsmost anything goes here. Mass blog commenting and profile links are perfectly fine. This tier links go to the both tier one and tier two sites.

This is just an example of the three tier link pyramid. You can create as many tier as you want. You can create three tiers of Web 2.0 properties only and have only one tier of blog comment and profile links underneath. Or you can have one tier of high quality links and have three to four tiers of profile links. Basic rule is the lower the tier is, the more link you can build. Also, the lower the tier is, the less quality of link is required.

In this guide you will learn step-by-step how to build five tier link pyramid that works really well and survived all Google Panda updated from 2011 and 2012 so far.

I build websites to rank in Google, Yahoo and Bing. Well, we can cross Yahoo now because the engine behind it now is Bing. So, the only two spider I’d like to see crawling my sites are Googlebot and bingbot.

I don’t generally want private data mining companies like Majestic SEO, SEOMoz and Copyscape to crawl my website, download my content, learn what websites I link to or otherwise poke their nose in my business.

Therefore this quick guide.

1. Google, Bing and robots.txt

Google and Bing bots are supposedly following robots exclusion standard. So, the first step is to allow them to crawl my website but block all other bots that follow robots exclusion standard.

Here is how my robots.txt file looks like.

Code:

User-agent: Googlebot
Allow: /
Disallow:

User-agent: bingbot
Allow: /
Disallow:

Sitemap: http://www.mydomain.com/sitemap.xml

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

This will block all good behaving bots, including Majestic SEO and all international search engines (which I don’t care about but you might, so be careful).

2. Kicking SEOMoz arse

Unfortunately SEOMoz don’t give crap about robots exclusion standard. Their standard mechanism is meta tag. So, edit your WordPress theme header.php and add the following meta tag.

Code:

<meta name=”SEOMOZ” content=”NOINDEX” />

It doesn’t guarantee you get rid of SEOMoz as they scrape their data from many data sources which they don’t disclose.

3. Blocking Copyscape

Let’s put aside all the copyright stuff for a second. Would you actually want some private corporation monitor your website content with a purpose of sending information to your competitors who paid them for spying on you? I wouldn’t.

Unfortunately Copyscape bot behaves like a real spy, disguising itself as a normal user. So, we need to block it by its IP address, which is 212.100.254.105.

These are the rewrite conditions to put to your .htaccess file.

Code:

RewriteEngine on
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteBase /

RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^212.100.254.105$

RewriteRule ^.*$ - [F]

This will send Copyscape bot a 403 Forbidden error.

Be careful with robots.txt and .htaccess files. Make sure you test your website crawlability with Google and Bing Webmaster Tools or otherwise.
